Description

Arette Gran Clase Extra Añejo Tequila | 700ml

Rich, mature, and traditionally crafted, Arette Gran Clase Extra Añejo Tequila is a premium aged expression from one of Tequila, Jalisco's historic tequila-producing families. Presented in a 700ml bottle, Gran Clase combines mature Blue Weber agave with extended oak aging, creating a deeply layered tequila with cooked agave, vanilla, caramel, dried fruit, spice, and pronounced barrel character.

Process & Aging

Arette Gran Clase Extra Añejo is produced at El Llano Distillery (NOM 1109) in the town of Tequila, Jalisco, Mexico, by the Orendain family.

The tequila is crafted from 100% Blue Weber agave and follows the traditional production philosophy associated with Arette. After distillation, the tequila undergoes extended maturation in oak barrels to qualify as an Extra Añejo, allowing the spirit to develop substantially greater depth and concentration than younger expressions.

Years of interaction between tequila and oak transform the fresh agave character into a mature profile of caramelized sweetness, spice, fruit, and wood while preserving the cooked-agave foundation of the spirit.

Appearance

Deep golden amber with rich copper and mahogany highlights, reflecting its extended maturation in oak.

Tasting Notes

Nose: Rich aromas of cooked agave, vanilla, caramel, dried fruit, toasted oak, and warm baking spices create a mature and inviting bouquet.

Palate: Full-bodied and layered with flavors of roasted agave, caramel, vanilla, dried fruit, toasted nuts, oak, and warming spice supported by a smooth and rounded texture.

Finish: Long and warming with lingering notes of mature agave, vanilla, caramelized sweetness, spice, and seasoned oak.

What Makes It Special

Arette Gran Clase represents the mature end of the Arette portfolio, combining the brand's traditional tequila-making heritage with the complexity created through extended barrel maturation.

Its Extra Añejo classification requires at least three years of aging, allowing considerably deeper interaction between the tequila and oak. The resulting spirit offers the richness expected from a long-aged tequila while maintaining the underlying agave character that defines Arette.

Production at the historic El Llano Distillery (NOM 1109) further distinguishes Gran Clase. The Orendain family's connection to tequila production stretches across generations, making Arette a particularly notable name for enthusiasts interested in traditionally rooted producers from the town of Tequila.

How to Enjoy

Best enjoyed neat in a tequila or fine spirits tasting glass at room temperature. Allow the tequila several minutes to rest after pouring to reveal additional layers of cooked agave, dried fruit, vanilla, caramel, spice, and mature oak.

Its extended maturation and rich profile also make Gran Clase particularly well suited as an after-dinner sipping tequila.

Brand Story

Arette Tequila is produced by the Orendain family at the historic El Llano Distillery (NOM 1109) in the town of Tequila, Jalisco. The family's roots in tequila production extend across generations, and the distillery remains closely associated with traditional tequila craftsmanship.

Named after Arete, the horse ridden by Humberto Mariles when he won Olympic gold medals in equestrian competition for Mexico in 1948, Arette combines Mexican heritage with a focus on agave-driven tequila. Gran Clase Extra Añejo represents a mature expression of that philosophy, using extended barrel aging to bring additional depth and complexity to Arette's traditional Blue Weber agave foundation.

    Balanced

I would give this 5 stars, but I leave that for the next great find. I have been drinking Gran Class for years now, ever since being introduced to it in Mexico. It is not the smoothest Extra Anejo I have had, Cave De Pro, might be better if you prefer smooth. But Arette retains a lot more of the classic tequila flavor with the aged elements. It is a beautiful sipping tequila.

I have been drinking Tequila beat in the $100 to $160 range for a couple of years and this is the best I have had so far. Thanks to Sam for providing the recommendations.

    A supreme tequila

It's indeed a premium tequila. Not as smooth as I expected but well balanced. I sipped it neat but it's better to sip it with the traditional mexican chaser sangrita and lime. To my taste it's very good not excellent.
