Process & Production
Del Maguey San Jose Rio Minas is handcrafted using mature Espadín agaves harvested after approximately 8–10 years of growth. The agaves are roasted in underground earthen pit ovens fueled with oak and tepehuaje wood before being hand-mashed in traditional hollowed tree trunks.
Fermentation takes place naturally with spring water in small wooden vats before the mezcal is twice distilled in traditional galvanized steel pot stills fitted with clay condensers, preserving the vibrant character of the agave while highlighting the distinctive terroir of the Mixteca Alta region. Every step reflects the artisanal methods that define Del Maguey's celebrated Single Village collection.

What Makes It Special
San Jose Rio Minas is one of Del Maguey's most distinctive Single Village mezcals, showcasing the craftsmanship of Roberto Gutierrez and his family in one of Oaxaca's most remote mezcal-producing regions. Traditional hand-mashing, natural fermentation, and clay-condensed distillation create a mezcal with remarkable elegance, floral complexity, and a vibrant fruit profile that sets it apart from more smoke-forward expressions.
Each bottle represents the unique culture, landscape, and production methods of a single village, staying true to Del Maguey's mission of preserving regional mezcal traditions.
How to Enjoy
Enjoy neat in a copita or veladora to appreciate its evolving aromas and layered complexity. Allow the mezcal several minutes to open in the glass before sipping slowly.
