Description
Lagrimas de Dolores Sierreño Joven Mezcal 700ml
Crafted in the rugged highlands of Durango, Lágrimas de Dolores Sierreño Joven Mezcal is a distinctive expression that showcases the unique character of Maguey Sierreño (Agave wocomahi). Produced by Maestro Mezcalero Valente Martínez in Tepehuanes, Durango, this artisanal mezcal is bottled at 47% ABV and highlights the terroir of one of Mexico's most celebrated mezcal-producing regions. Known for its vibrant herbal complexity and mountain-grown agave character, Sierreño offers a mezcal experience unlike any other.
Process & Profile
This mezcal is produced from 12-year-old Maguey Sierreño (Agave wocomahi) harvested in the mountains of Tepehuanes, Durango. The agaves are roasted in traditional underground conical earthen ovens fueled by oak wood, then fermented and triple-distilled in copper stills under the guidance of Maestro Mezcalero Valente Martínez. Some batches are rested in glass for several months before release, allowing the spirit to develop additional harmony and complexity.
Produced at a high-elevation vinata approximately 8,000 feet above sea level, this mezcal reflects the unique environmental conditions of northern Durango.
Appearance
Crystal clear and bright with excellent viscosity, showcasing the purity of an unaged artisanal mezcal.
Tasting Notes
Nose: Fresh pine, juniper, cooked agave, mountain herbs, citrus zest, and subtle earthy undertones.
Palate: Vibrant and complex with notes of roasted agave, herbal botanicals, pine resin, citrus, mineral-rich earth, and light spice.
Finish: Long, clean, and refreshing with lingering herbal complexity, agave sweetness, and mountain minerality.
What Makes It Special
Lágrimas de Dolores Sierreño stands apart because it is made from the rare Agave wocomahi, a species native to Durango and seldom seen outside the region. The combination of high-altitude cultivation, traditional production methods, and triple distillation creates a mezcal with remarkable elegance and a flavor profile often compared to fine botanical spirits due to its distinctive pine and juniper character.
The brand was founded by the Gutiérrez family, whose vision centers on showcasing Durango's endemic agaves and preserving regional mezcal traditions.
How to Enjoy
Best enjoyed neat in a copita or tasting glass. Allow a few minutes for the spirit to open, revealing its evolving layers of herbs, citrus, and agave. It also pairs exceptionally well with aged cheeses, grilled vegetables, roasted meats, and traditional Mexican cuisine.
