Description

El Mayor Café Reposado Tequila – 80 Proof (40% ABV) | 750ml

El Mayor Café Reposado Tequila is a unique expression that combines the smooth character of 100% Blue Weber Agave tequila with naturally roasted coffee notes. The tequila is rested for three months in bourbon barrels that have previously been seasoned with dark-roasted Brazilian coffee beans, creating a subtle coffee-kissed finish while allowing the cooked-agave character to remain at the forefront.

Bottled at 40% ABV, El Mayor Café Reposado offers an earthy and floral nose with coffee and vanilla, followed by a silky palate featuring mineral undertones, roasted coffee, vanilla, and cooked agave. Designed for both sipping and cocktails, it brings together the character of traditional reposado tequila with the richness of coffee.

Process & Production

El Mayor Café Reposado begins with 100% Blue Weber Agave grown on the El Mayor estate in Jalisco. El Mayor's traditional tequila process starts with mature agave plants that are hand-selected and harvested by jimadores. The piñas are then cooked for approximately 24 hours in an autoclave before being shredded and gently pressed to extract the agave sugars.

The extracted agave is fermented using El Mayor's family-secret heirloom yeast before undergoing double distillation. The resulting tequila is then rested for three months in bourbon barrels that have been specially seasoned with dark-roasted Brazilian coffee beans.

For the barrel-seasoning process, the bourbon barrels are filled with dark-roasted Brazilian coffee beans and gently rotated for approximately four to six weeks. The coffee beans are then removed, leaving the seasoned wood ready to impart subtle roasted-coffee character during the tequila's three-month resting period.
