Luzhou Laojiao Zisha Baijiu 375ml
52% by Volume
The city of Luzhou has been a national winemaking hub for more than 2000 years, and the Luzhou Laojiao distillery – one of the four oldest in China – originated during the Ming Dynasty, in 1573; the distillery still uses 1,619 of these original fermentation pits, as well as the ‘continuous cycle’ method, meaning that many Luzhou baijius enjoyed today are in fact related to those which were consumed in the 16th Century. The Luzhou Laojiao Zisha bottle – a grainy, unpolished, “purple” (though it looks more brown to American eyes) – pays homage to traditional liquor vessels; in fact, Zi-Sha translates as “purple sand.” The bottle itself was introduced in 1993, and the medal around the neck is a replica of the Gold Medal that the brand won at the 1915 Panama-Pacific Exposition in San Francisco.
