Description
Tears of Llorona Extra Añejo Tequila – 86 Proof (43% ABV) | 1 Liter
Legendary, complex, and widely regarded as one of the finest extra añejo tequilas ever produced, Tears of Llorona Extra Añejo Tequila is an ultra-premium expression crafted by renowned Master Distiller Germán González. Bottled at 43% ABV (86 proof) in a 1-liter bottle, this extraordinary tequila undergoes an innovative aging process that bridges the worlds of tequila, cognac, Scotch whisky, and sherry, resulting in a spirit of remarkable depth and sophistication.
Process & Aging
Produced at La Tequileña Distillery (NOM 1146) in Tequila, Jalisco, Tears of Llorona begins with estate-grown 100% Blue Weber agave harvested from high-altitude volcanic soils. Following slow fermentation and double distillation in copper pot stills, the tequila is aged for approximately five years in a combination of Scotch whisky barrels, sherry casks, and cognac barrels. This unique triple-cask maturation creates exceptional complexity while preserving the spirit's agave foundation.
Unlike many aged tequilas, Tears of Llorona achieves remarkable richness without sacrificing balance, allowing the influence of the barrels and the character of the agave to coexist harmoniously.
Appearance
Deep amber with rich mahogany and copper highlights, reflecting its extended aging and multi-cask maturation.
Tasting Notes
Nose: Layers of sherry-soaked raisins, butterscotch, toasted walnuts, dried fruit, leather, tobacco, and oak unfold with remarkable depth and elegance.
Palate: Rich and luxurious with flavors of brandied cherries, dark cocoa, caramel, roasted nuts, baking spices, dried fruit, and mature agave. The influence of cognac, sherry, and whisky casks creates exceptional complexity and texture.
Finish: Long, layered, and remarkably refined with lingering notes of oak, vanilla, dried fruit, spice, tobacco, and dark chocolate.
What Makes It Special
Tears of Llorona has earned a near-mythical reputation among tequila enthusiasts for its extraordinary complexity and uncompromising production standards. Each batch is produced in limited quantities and personally blended to achieve a unique character while maintaining the signature profile that has made the brand famous.
Its five-year maturation and use of Scotch, sherry, and cognac barrels create a profile that appeals not only to tequila collectors but also to enthusiasts of aged whisky, cognac, and rum. Many consider it one of the benchmark ultra-aged tequilas available today.
How to Enjoy
Best enjoyed neat in a snifter or tasting glass. Allow the tequila several minutes to open in the glass, revealing evolving layers of fruit, spice, oak, chocolate, and mature agave. A few drops of water can further unlock its remarkable complexity.

Tears of Llorona Extra Anejo Tequilauila 1 Liter
I'm an aficionado of good tequila and prefer a double-distilled tequila made from highland agave with its earthy and clean agave flavor. This tequila hit all the requirements for me, and the taste is truly worth the cost. Some of my friends who truly appreciate tequila have said it's the best they've ever had. My favorite is still Rey Sol, but this is definitely up there.

Awesome extra Anejo
Reviews say Tears is the best extra anejo. I agree it is pretty good and definitely worth having in your tequila collection. Resting the mix in three different wine casks results in a unique taste profile with the sherry showing through. Being on the sweeter side it compares favorably with Adictivo, Cava De Oro, Don Elias and Compoveda but I have to say I like the flavor profile of these a little bit more than Tears of Llorona. All are smooth and sweet. I do have to give 5 stars to Old Town for their extremely quick shipping and excellent packaging and the fact that they carry Tears as many other tequlia sellers do not.

Tears of Llorona
A Must have on any tequila lover shelf. Aroma is sweet caramel & oak. Balanced taste that could rival any high end bourbon. Aged 5 years in Sherry, Cognac, & Scotch Barrels. High priced but it is one to save & sip for those right moments.
