Difficult to enjoy and appreciate the sotol characteristics when it’s Smokey. This one is like mezcal.
This is without a doubt the most unique spirit I have ever tried. I'm writing this as I'm sipping my first glass of this spirit neat so my opinions may change as it continues to grow on me. For now what I can say is this spirit is for the truly adventurous --those that want to try something completely new to their palate. The nose is like wet hay and desert rocks. Its familiar but I can't quite put my finger on what I reminds me of other than something on a farm. The taste is layered and starts off something like mezcal before you are hit with a very herbaceous note that I have a hard time describing. In the end it finishes off with the taste of desert clay and grass. It has an extremely long finish. I can seriously still taste the afternotes two minutes after taking a sip. Overall, sipping this spirit literally transports my mind to another place...namely the desert. I wouldn't say I completely "like" it in the sense everything about it is pleasant. But I am in awe of it. 4.5 stars.
